Abstract:

Background: Body checking and disordered eating behaviors are common problems among adolescents and young people which can be precursors to eating disorders. The research aimed to examine the effectiveness of group narrative therapy in decreasing Body checking and disordered eating behaviors. Method: This experimental, intervention-control, study was conducted on 920 female 11-16-year-old students selected by multistage random method. They responded to two scales of Body checking behaviors and disordered eating behaviors. Among 188 female students who gained one standard deviation above the mean score of the group in both scales, 40 students were randomly divided into the experimental and control groups. Then, the members of the experimental group participated in narrative therapy intervention. After the intervention, both scales were distributed among the experimental and control groups. Data were analyzed by the use of descriptive statistics and multivariate covariance method. Results: The results revealed that compared with the control group, narrative therapy significantly reduced Body checking and disordered eating behaviors in the experimental group (P<0. 01). Conclusion: According to the findings of the present study, the investigation of effectiveness of narrative therapy on these behaviors can provide valuable implications about the mental health of individuals.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between mental health and eating disorders and Body checking behaviors in girl students. The research method was descriptive-correlational. From all students, a sample of 150 people were randomly selected. Data were collected using Mental Health Questionnaire (GHQ), Eating Attitudes Questionnaire (Eat26) and Body Examination Data Questionnaire (BCQ) In order to analyze the data, descriptive statistics including mean, standard deviation and variance of inferential statistics including R correlation and multivariate regression were used using SPSS software. The findings showed that the dimensions of mental health can predict eating disorders (disturbed eating) and Body checking behaviors. Therefore, it can be concluded that a series of internalized psychological factors, that is, factors in the context of which the "preoccupations" associated with physical transformation are only rationalization and projection of a more fundamental emotional failure cause eating disorders and Body check.

Abstract:

Background: Having an appropriate appearance in adolescent girls is one of the important traits of adolescence that is affected by various psychological factors and causes the formation of different eating attitudes and behaviors. The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of Body checking behaviors associated with alexithymia and parenting behavior to eating attitudes of adolescent girls. Methods: The research method was cross-sectional, descriptivecorrelation based on structural equations. The statistical samples of the study included all female high school students in Torbat-e Heydarieh, Khorasan Razavi in the academic year of 2018-2019 (N=2832); of them, 390 were selected according to the Slovin formula and multi-stage cluster sampling. They filled out alexithymia questionnaires by Bagby et al., and parental rearing methods by Baumrind, and Body checking by Reese et al. The obtained data were analyzed by regression equations using SPSS 23 and Amos 18 software. Results: The findings showed a positive and significant correlation between the variables of alexithymia, permissive, authoritarian parenting behavior and Body checking behaviors with eating attitude; also, there was a significant negative correlation between the variables of assertive and authoritative parenting behavior with eating attitude (P<0. 01). Also, eating attitude based on alexithymia, authoritarian and authoritative parenting behaviors could be directly and indirectly predictable through the mediation of Body checking behaviors, and the research model was approved. It can be concluded that when alexithymia and parental behavior are combined with Body checking behaviors, they have more effects on the intensity of eating attitudes. Conclusion: According to the results, training parenting methods and emotional skills affect the formation of positive attitudes about the Body checking and creating normal eating attitude.

Abstract:

Background: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is highly prevalent among adolescent girls and significantly interferes with their social and emotional development. It can lead to impaired coping mechanisms and maladaptive behaviors, such as anxiety sensitivity and Body checking. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Emotional Schema Therapy (EST) in mitigating anxiety sensitivity and Body checking behaviors among adolescent girls with SAD.Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest-two months follow-up assessment was employed. The study participants were 25 adolescent girls aged 15 to 18 years with a diagnosis of SAD in the city of Ramshir, Iran, in 2023. Adolescent girls in the experimental group participated in ten weekly, 90-minute Emotional Schema Therapy sessions. The participants were selected using a multi-stage cluster random sampling technique and completed standardized measures of social phobia, anxiety sensitivity, and Body checking behaviors at the beginning, end, and follow-up of the intervention. To analyze the data, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted using SPSS version 27.Results: Participants in the EST group exhibited a significant reduction in anxiety sensitivity (pretest: 53.80±2.85; posttest: 34.67±3.01; follow-up: 35.00±3.35) and Body checking behaviors (pretest: 85.67±3.63; posttest: 50.87±4.24; follow-up: 49.47±3.50) over time (P<0.001). The positive effects of EST on anxiety sensitivity and Body checking behaviors were maintained at follow-up (P<0.001).Conclusions: The findings suggested that EST can be an effective intervention for reducing anxiety sensitivity and Body checking behaviors in adolescent girls with SAD.

Abstract:

To investigate a model about Body image of Iranian’s female students and determining structural relations of physical and psychological factors related to Body image, 497 female students from Islamic Azad University Zarand Branch randomly selected. After measuring weight, height and calculating Body mass index of participants, they assessed by Body image state scale, self- esteem scale of Marsh self-concept test, the appearance schema inventory-revised, personal appearance beliefs test and Body checking questionnaire. Evaluation of the proposed model with structural equation modeling (SEM) by using of maximum likelihood estimation of AMOS software and calculation of fit indices indicated that, hypothetical model has the goodness of fit with the data. Results showed that, these model direct and indirect effects of physical and cognitive-behavioral factors respectively, .417 and. 33, explain 53% of variation in Body image. These findings are consistent with the results of other research, modeling in the area of Body image, and furthermore, helping in better knowing complex biological and psychological structure of Body image.

Abstract:

The Body freedom flutter phenomenon is one of the aeroelastic instabilities that occurs due to the coupling of the aeroelastic bending mode of the wing with the short-period mode in the flight dynamics of the aircraft. By using the aeroservoelastic model and applying closed loop control, this phenomenon can be suppressed in the operating conditions of the aircraft and the velocity of this event can be increased. The simplest model aircraft capable of displaying this instability includes the flexible wing and the planar flight dynamics model. For this purpose, the wing structure is modeled using the Euler-Bernoulli beam and, the theory of minimum variable state is used to model unstable aerodynamics to make the conditions suitable for modeling the system in state space. In the control section, the elevator is used as the control surface and LQR theory with Kalman filter is used to Body freedom flutter suppression. Finally, the effect of adding a closed loop control to increase the Body freedom flutter velocity and the limitations of this work are studied.
